Source: Negotiations with UN on Russian food exports ongoing

MOSCOW, Sep 7 (PRIME) -- Turkey understands Moscow’s concern about fulfillment of the food deal, and negotiations with the U.N. on entry of Russian ships to the international markets are going on, a diplomatic source told PRIME on Wednesday.

Previously, Russian Permanent Representative to the U.N. Vasily Nebenzya said that the part of the food deal, which outlines exports of Russian food and fertilizers was not working because no Russian ship had managed to export grain yet, and threatened to may pull out of the deal.

“These arguments are understandable, and we have also repeatedly expressed our position about the necessity of Russian cargoes to go to the world’s markets, it is part of the deal. Negotiations between Russia and the U.N. are going on on this, and we said that we may provide support if necessary,” the source said.

Ankara also has not received any messages from Russia on possible rejection of prolongation of the deal, the source added.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan may discuss the food deal on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s summit on September 15–16. The topic is on the agenda of the meeting, the source said.
